Sikerrel zárult a Hallgatói Hálózat tüntetése a Schmitt-kisdoktori ellen

Schmitt Pál plágiumbotránya kapcsán, a Hallgatói Hálózat aktivistáinak tevékenysége hozzájárult ahhoz, hogy a SOTE szenátusa összeült, és megszavazták a kisdoktori cím visszavonásának indítványozását. A köztársasági elnök az ügy kipattanásától (azaz az egyértelmű bizonyítékok megjelenésétől) kezdve fokozatosan, egyre inkább bizonyította színvonaltalanságát a nyilvánvaló plágiumtól való elhatárolódásával, vagyis az eltussolás különböző, innovatív próbálkozásaival. Én személy szerint örülök, hogy a SOTE összekapta magát, és nem kockáztatta meg a morális leminősülést azzal, hogy az ún. Tényfeltáró Bizottság kétes konklúzióival, valamint a nemzetierőforrás-miniszternek, Réthelyi Miklósnak címzett ügyetlen állásfoglalási kérelmével búcsúzott volna az egyébként magának az intézménynek a felelősségét is terhelő ügytől. A HaHa tevékenységét elkönyvelhetjük az aktivisták, így a részvételi demokrácia győzelmének, még akkor is, ha a kezdeti lépések ellenére a köztársasági elnök egyelőre még nem látszik fontolgatni a lemondását. Na meg persze ki tudja, milyen erők mozognak a háttérben - de ez már pártpolitikai kérdés.

Az indexen azt is olvasni, hogy a Professzorok Batthyány köre szerint: "egy olyan pillanatban, amelyben a hazánk ellen alkalmazott kettős mércétől szenvedünk, különösen fontos, hogy az országon belül csak egy mérce legyen, és az mindenkire vonatkozzék. Az országnak a jelenlegi nehéz helyzetében olyan köztársasági elnökre van szüksége, aki köztiszteletben áll bel- és külföldön egyaránt."

Újabb hajléktalanokat sújtó rombolás

"2012. március 20-án arról értesültünk, hogy a Ferencvárosi Önkormányzat egyik szervezete, a FESZOFE Kft. munkatársai a Határ út menti egyik erdős területen leromboltak két viskót, és így három embert tettek fedél nélkülivé, megfosztva őket saját maguk építette otthonuktól. A Város Mindenkié csoport két aktivistája a helyszínen megtudta, hogy a rendőrök további négy embert utasítottak arra, hogy három órán belül bontsák le a kunyhójukat, és hagyják el a helyszínt. A rendőrök semmilyen hivatalos papírt nem mutattak."

Tüntetések Kanadában a tandíjak emelése ellen

Elkaptam egy levelet. Kanadában forrong a levegő: Québecben egyetemi hallgatók tízezrei (mostanra állítólag 130.000-en vannak) tüntetnek a tandíjak horribilis mértékű emelése ellen (facebook oldaluk itt, videók itt). Az országon kívül alapvetően ismeretlenek nemcsak a tüntetések, hanem az is, hogy a diáktüntetőket kemény erőszakkal igyekeznek elnyomni: legutóbb például az egyik tüntető, Francis Grenier súlyosan megsérült, amikor egy füstgránát a jobb szemét találta el. A dolog pikantériája, hogy a tüntetőknek kellett mentőt hívniuk, mert a rohamrendőrök nem segítettek neki. A levelet Montréal Concordia Egyetemének geográfusai terjesztik, az egyetem földrajzos hallgatói közül is a tüntetők közé vonultak, sokan a sztrájkőrséget is erősítve.

Some of the members on this listserv might already be aware that approximately 130 000 students across Québec are on strike against the plan to raise tuition $1625 over the next five years. Basically unknown outside Canada, student protesters have been met with extreme violence, including aggravated assault on one college student. 

At Concordia University in Montréal, geography students have joined the strike, and some students have even decided to defend picket lines. I am sending you the Chair's "chilling" memo (see attachment) that I believe interferes with students and faculty's right to assemble and protest. Below is my response.

I think its important that administrators be held accountable for their actions. Since they seem more interested in being accountable to their funders and scientific journals to the Concordia community, they might react differently if they are pressured by their colleagues.

Cosmobilities Conference 2012: Governing mobilities

COSMOBILITIES CONFERENCE 2012 - GOVERNING MOBILITIES

Lausanne, October 31st – November 1st, 2012

Aspirations of seamless and universal mobilities are a hallmark of social and economic life at the beginning of the 21st century. As systems of governance relying upon particular forms of governmentality developed in western societies to more effectively and productively propagate and sustain the emerging capitalist system and manage its socioeconomic disjunctures, mobility has become a matter of special concern. A set of interlocking rationales, apparatus, institutions, roles and procedures of governance have come to sustain powerful `mobility regimes` justifying, stabilizing, naturalizing, controlling and disciplining particular forms of mobilities characterizing contemporary social, economic and political life in the north Atlantic rim.

This conference focuses on the question of which systems of governance are involved in these processes and how they are evolving as a result of these trends at a time when the future looks less and less like the past. In contrast to mainstream scientific literature and studies on transport and mobility dominated by works on travel and commuting, in this conference we propose to examine the governance of individual and collective actors’ mobility projects. In modern societies, where discourses lauding spatial and social mobility seem prevalent, this conference aims to understand critically how public policies consider the coexistence of different types of mobility projects, and inequalities linked to this diversity.

The conference is co-organized with the MSFS’ (Mobilités spatiales, fluidités sociales) francophone conference. Joint session(s) will take place October 31st. The call for papers for the MSFS conference will soon be available at http://lasur.epfl.ch/

A szolgáltatást kitaláló cég szerint, mindössze a korábbi újságárulásos tevékenységet kívánták digitális változatban újraformálni, hiszen a modern digitalizált korban az efféle újságok léte nagy nyomás alatt van. Border Architectures and Subjectivities: Global Reflections on ‘Border Milieus’

Between the excitement in the media over increases in transnational financial flows and alarming human rights violations under new security regimes, borders are becoming more and more relevant as sites of both mobility and enclosure (Heyman and Cunningham, 2004). These geographical edges of states are often the nerve centres of thriving informal commerce and financial flows, and, in more recent decades, zones of new technologies of identification, surveillance, and the frequent suspension of law. In this panel, we argue that the study of borders, border societies, and subjectivities that flow from borders can make critical contributions to the mobile turn or movement-driven social sciences (Urry and Buscher, 2009). We especially seek to explore new elements of connection and disjuncture that converge and produce ‘border milieus’ (Martinez, 1994). The panel proposes to interrogate the material bases of border architectures (such as fences, walls, checkpoints, military camps, and border roads) as objects of memory, artifacts of nation building, and as locations of everyday experiences of border crossings and exchange, bringing to light the multiple ways that on the ground experiences of border apparatuses contribute to the creation of borderland spaces. Contributors examine the varied ways in which these border architectures in heavily militarised border regions and war landscapes are animated, experienced and brought to life through recollections, trans-border friendship, transgendered subjectivities and transnational trade. We invite papers from warring and/or militarised border zones of Asia, Africa, the Middle East, the Americas, and Europe that engage with current debates in the anthropology of globalization, mobility, and violence. We especially seek contributors who investigate border architectures and subjectivities, inspired mobility and impeded mobility, gender and sexuality, race and nation, and trans-border trade and exchange.
